As a Senior Support Worker, you'll be expected to take the lead on shift, assist with training and inducting new staff to the service, and participate in the on-call rota. You will write or review daily reports on activities, construct and update care plans, and undertake risk assessments for the individuals that we support.

To provide leadership to the care staff within Callaway Care and Support Ltd, ensuring care is delivered in accordance with current best practices, policies, procedures, and legislative requirements. You will supervise the care services within Callaway Care and Support Ltd and maintain skills at a current level, undertaking necessary training and development.

Role Specifications:

  • Ensure Service Users are at the heart of care delivery, enhancing their wellbeing.
  • Ensure all staff contribute to the efficient running of the service and supervise staff.
  • Be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of those individuals they support.

Personal Responsibilities:

  • Attend statutory training and any other training as directed by management.

Essential Requirements:

  • NVQ Level 2 Health and Social Care.
  • Willing to start NVQ 3/4/5 Health and Social Care.
  • Good communication skills.
  • A team player.
  • Flexible and adaptable to the changing needs of our service users.
  • Positive attitude.
  • 2 years experience as a Senior Support Worker with individuals with either Learning Disabilities or Challenging Behaviours.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Driving Licence (desirable but not essential).
  • NVQ Level 3 Health and Social Care (desirable but not essential, must be willing to start NVQ 3).
  • Good English - written and verbal proficient skills.
  • Maintain all care plans/care records in accordance with Callaway Care and Support Ltd policy and audit care records following company policy to ensure compliance.
  • Leadership skills.
  • Ability to induct and orientate new employees to the job role and service.
  • Organise and plan supervision and appraisals for care staff.
  • Provide and oversee staff providing people with support/assistance as they accomplish daily tasks, including bathing, eating, dressing, grooming, and using the bathroom.
  • Dispense medication following Callaway Care and Support Ltd policies and procedures.
  • Communicate any problems, concerns, or changes to Service Users' family members as needed.

Communication Skills:

  • Senior Carers need to build rapport with Service Users by establishing personal connections and showing interest in their lives.
  • The post-holder should recognise the importance of effective communication within the multi-disciplinary team, with Service Users and their families/friends, whilst recognising people's needs for alternative methods of communication and responding accordingly.
  • To greet visitors and show prospective Service Users and families the facilities as required.

Problem Solving Skills:

  • Senior Carers need to be able to adapt and address situations quickly.
  • Plan, develop, implement, and assess approaches to promote health and well-being, whilst recognising and reporting situations where there might be a need for protection.

Specific Requirements for Previous Experience:

  • Previous experience of working in a similar environment.
  • Previous experience of working in a similar supervisory role.
  • Experience of working with Service Users, particularly those that may have additional support needs.
  • Knowledge of rota planning ensuring adequate staff on duty with correct skill mix and fair allocation of off duty/annual leave.
