We are hiring an experienced Engineering Buyer Manager to lead and develop our engineering purchasing function, based in Haywards Heath. As part of the continued growth of the engineering companies, we are looking to strengthen our purchasing function by appointing an experienced individual to lead and develop our engineering buying team across: Adelphi Manufacturing.

About the Role

The Engineering Buyer Manager will lead the procurement of engineering components, materials, and services to support production, engineering, and operational requirements. This is a key leadership role, responsible for supplier performance, cost control, team development and continuous improvement within the supply chain. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the wider buying team, currently composed of three buyers and one planner, whilst working closely with Engineering, Production, R&D and Aftersales functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading procurement of engineering parts, raw materials, tooling, and services
  • Ensuring on-time availability of materials to meet production schedules
  • Managing supplier relationships, negotiations, and performance reviews
  • Delivering cost-saving targets and maintaining accurate pricing data in Business Central
  • Leading, motivating and developing the buying and planning team
  • Supporting new product introduction (NPI), R&D, engineering changes and component obsolescence
  • Optimising stock levels while minimising excess and obsolete inventory

Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience in engineering procurement / buying within manufacturing
  • Strong understanding of technical drawings, materials and engineering components
  • Experience managing and motivating a team
  • Experience managing supplier relationships and contracts
  • Commercially astute with strong negotiation skills
  • Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems
  • Experience working in ISO 9001 certified companies
