Payroll Bureau Assistant

Location: Bamber Bridge, Preston
Salary: £28,000 - £32,000 pro rata (depending on experience)
Job Type: Part-time (3 days per week)

Are you an organised and detail-oriented individual looking to develop your career in payroll? We're recruiting for a Payroll Bureau Assistant to join a friendly and supportive team based in Bamber Bridge.

Working within a busy payroll bureau, you'll assist in delivering accurate and timely payroll services for a diverse portfolio of clients. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with payroll, accounts, bookkeeping or administration experience who enjoys working in a fast-paced, client-focused environment.

The Role

As a Payroll Bureau Assistant, you'll play an important role in supporting the payroll team with the smooth running of multiple payrolls while ensuring compliance with UK payroll legislation and HMRC requirements.

Duties will include:

  • Assisting with the processing of weekly, fortnightly, four-weekly and monthly payrolls.
  • Accurately entering payroll data including hours worked, salary changes, overtime, bonuses, deductions, starters and leavers.
  • Supporting Real Time Information (RTI) submissions and other payroll-related filings.
  • Assisting with workplace pension auto-enrolment administration.
  • Preparing draft payslips, payroll reports and summaries.
  • Responding to payroll queries from clients and employees in a professional manner.
  • Maintaining accurate payroll records whilst ensuring strict confidentiality.
  • Supporting year-end payroll processes, including P60 administration.
  • Liaising with HMRC, pension providers and clients when required.
  • Providing general administrative support to the payroll bureau team.

About You

We're looking for someone who has:

  • Previous experience in payroll, payroll bureau, bookkeeping, accounts or administration.
  • Excellent numerical skills and a strong eye for detail.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Excel and payroll software.
  • Experience using PayCircle or similar payroll systems (desirable).
  • A good understanding of confidentiality and data protection.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • The ability to manage workloads, prioritise tasks and meet payroll deadlines.
  • A methodical, organised and proactive approach to work.
  • A willingness to learn and develop within payroll.
