This is an exciting opportunity for a commercially astute, hands-on Finance Director to join an established and ambitious founder-led business at a genuinely pivotal point in its growth. The business has added to its business portfolio and is ideally seeking someone with real estate/property sector experience. This is the opportunity to come in early, help shape the finance function and play a central role in turning an ambitious property portfolio into a scalable, commercially successful business.

The role involves building the finance function from the ground up, putting robust reporting, systems and MI in place as the portfolio grows. You'll report directly into the Board and become a genuine commercial partner, helping them understand the numbers, assess opportunities and make better decisions about where the business goes next.

Key areas will include:

  • Owning robust, accurate and timely financial reporting across the group
  • Preparing and presenting insightful MI to the monthly Board meeting
  • Building the KPI, dashboard and reporting framework from the ground up
  • Leading the implementation and embedding of new finance systems
  • Appraising new sites, developments and investment opportunities
  • Providing commercial analysis around future growth
  • Leading and developing a finance team of two initially
  • Working closely with the wider leadership team to improve profitability and cash generation
  • Acting as a hands-on commercial partner to the Board across all areas of finance

What are they looking for?

This is an entrepreneurial, fast-moving business, so they're looking for someone who is comfortable rolling their sleeves up and getting involved. You'll ideally have experience of:

  • Commercial property, residential, student accommodation or co-living
  • Building financial reporting and MI from scratch
  • Finance systems implementation and roll-out
  • Board reporting and presenting financial information to senior stakeholders
  • Appraising new sites, developments and investment opportunities
  • Working in a lean finance function where you can't simply delegate everything
  • Supporting businesses through significant growth and change

You'll need to be a self-starter - driven, energetic, proactive and commercially minded. Someone who can look beyond the numbers and ask: "What does this mean for the business, and what should we do about it?" For the right Finance Director, this could be far more than another FD position. It's an opportunity to build something, shape strategy and leave your mark on a growing property business.

Location: Manchester
Direct reports: 2 initially

If you're a CIMA, ACA or ACCA qualified finance leader with strong property experience and you're looking for a role where you can genuinely influence the future rather than inherit the past, I'd be keen to hear from you.
