Finance Officer
Salary: £34,000 - £38,000 depending on experience
Location: Denbigh
Working Hours: Full-time, office based
Annual Leave: 28 days, increasing to 33 days with service, plus an additional 1.5 days in December

About the Role
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Finance Officer to join a successful and growing organisation based in Denbigh.
Working as part of a small finance team, you will take ownership of management accounting and key finance processes across a multi-company group. This is a varied, hands-on position covering management accounts, month-end reporting, banking, cash flow, sales ledger, payment runs, financial controls and analysis.
The role would suit an experienced Finance Officer, Assistant Accountant, Senior Accounts Assistant or Management Accounts professional who enjoys taking ownership of their workload and is confident working with limited supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly management accounts information and supporting schedules across multiple group companies.
- Complete month-end reconciliations, journals, accruals and prepayments.
- Review financial performance against budgets, forecasts and prior periods, investigating and explaining key variances.
- Prepare and maintain short-term cash-flow forecasts.
- Manage day-to-day banking, cash positioning and bank reconciliations.
- Take ownership of the sales ledger, including receipt allocation, aged debt and control account reconciliations.
- Manage automated Direct Debit and recurring card collections, including failed payments and reconciliations.
- Prepare and process supplier payment runs, ensuring appropriate approvals and controls are followed.
- Process customer refunds and maintain accurate supporting records and audit trails.
- Maintain balance sheet schedules including intercompany balances, fixed assets and hire-purchase commitments.
- Prepare financial analysis and site costings to support budgets, forecasts and business planning.
- Support the preparation and review of relevant tax returns.
- Assist with year-end accounts and external audit requirements.
- Investigate discrepancies and recommend improvements to finance processes and controls.
- Deal professionally with finance queries from customers, suppliers, banks, advisers and internal stakeholders.
Skills & Experience
We are looking for someone with:
- Strong practical accounting experience, ideally within a multi-company or group environment.
- AAT qualification/studies or equivalent experience.
- Previous management accounts and month-end experience.
- Experience of balance sheet and bank reconciliations, journals, accruals and prepayments.
- Good understanding of financial controls and maintaining an accurate audit trail.
- Experience preparing or supporting tax returns.
- Confident Excel skills and experience working with accounting systems.
- Practical experience of Sage Line 50 and Sage 200.
- Experience with automated Direct Debit and recurring card payment collections.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to investigate and resolve discrepancies.
- Confidence managing your own workload and working to deadlines without close supervision.
Experience of intercompany accounting and improving finance processes within a growing business would be particularly advantageous.
