Payroll Specialist - Hybrid
Location: Chorley or Huyton
Salary: £32,000-£35,000 depending on experience
Contract: Permanent
Hours: 36.25 per week, Monday to Friday
Take ownership of payroll processes for around 1,000 employees within a fantastic organisation.
Our client is seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to join its HR Operations team. With hybrid and flexible working, a choice of office base and support towards CIPP Level 5, this is an opportunity to combine payroll responsibility with professional development.
The Role:
You'll act as the main contact for an outsourced payroll provider, coordinating submissions, checking outputs and ensuring service standards are met. This is a standalone specialist role supported by colleagues across the People Team.
You'll work with payroll information for hourly paid employees, bank staff and salaried colleagues across multiple locations and pay cycles.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and submit accurate payroll data within agreed deadlines.
- Validate timesheets, prepare payroll uploads and check payroll results.
- Investigate discrepancies and coordinate adjustments, advances and off-cycle payments.
- Answer employee payroll queries with clear and timely guidance.
- Build effective relationships with the external payroll provider, managers and HR colleagues.
- Support payroll year-end, statutory submissions and pension requirements.
- Prepare payroll reports and improve processes to reduce errors and simplify administration.
About You:
- Substantial practical payroll experience, gained as a Payroll Specialist, Payroll Officer, Senior Payroll Administrator, Payroll Manager or in a similar role.
- Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation and statutory requirements.
- Confident Excel user with experience checking and managing large datasets.
- Accurate, organised and comfortable meeting multiple payroll deadlines.
- Able to work independently and take responsibility for payroll data quality.
- Confident investigating discrepancies and following queries through to resolution.
- An effective communicator with an interest in process improvement and outsourced provider management.
CIPP qualifications are welcome. Support towards CIPP Level 5 is available for candidates with the relevant experience who want to develop further.
