We are currently recruiting for a Payroll Bureau Assistant to join a friendly and supportive team based in Runcorn. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with previous payroll experience who enjoys working in a busy, client-focused environment and is looking to develop their career within payroll.
About the Role
Working as part of a busy payroll bureau, you will support the team in delivering accurate and timely payroll services across a varied portfolio of clients.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Processing weekly, fortnightly, four-weekly and monthly payrolls.
- Inputting and checking payroll data, including hours worked, overtime, bonuses, deductions, salary changes, starters and leavers.
- Assisting with RTI submissions and other payroll-related filings.
- Supporting workplace pension auto-enrolment administration.
- Preparing draft payslips, payroll reports and summaries.
- Responding to payroll queries from clients and employees in a professional and helpful manner.
- Maintaining accurate payroll records and ensuring confidentiality at all times.
- Supporting year-end payroll processes, including P60 administration.
- Liaising with HMRC, pension providers and clients where required.
- Providing general administrative support to the payroll team.
About You
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Previous experience in payroll, preferably within a payroll bureau environment.
- Strong numerical skills and excellent attention to detail.
- Experience using payroll software such as Sage, Superpay or similar.
- Good Microsoft Excel and general IT skills.
- An understanding of confidentiality and data protection.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and meet strict payroll deadlines.
- A methodical, organised and proactive approach to work.
- A willingness to learn and develop within payroll.
