Working Pattern: Office based initially, moving towards a more flexible/hybrid model

Benefits:

  • Opportunity to join a growing SME

About the Role

Are you a recent finance or accounting graduate hungry to build your career?

Perhaps you're currently studying AAT Level 4 or CIMA and looking for a role where you can develop your management accounting skills? Or maybe you're working within accountancy practice and looking to make your first move into industry?

This could be an excellent opportunity.

We're recruiting an Assistant Accountant for a growing and ambitious SME based in Chester. The business currently has turnover of approximately Β£15m, with further growth projected over the next 12 months.

Reporting directly to an ambitious and supportive Financial Controller, you'll join a hands-on finance team where you'll be given exposure across a broad range of accounting responsibilities.

This isn't a role where you'll be doing the same transactional tasks every day. You'll be encouraged to learn, develop, ask questions, bring forward ideas and gradually take on more responsibility as your experience grows.

Key Responsibilities

As this is a broad Assistant Accountant position within an SME environment, you'll gain exposure across different areas of finance, which may include:

  • Supporting the preparation of monthly management accounts
  • Balance sheet and bank reconciliations
  • Accruals, prepayments and journal postings
  • Assisting with month-end processes
  • Supporting budgeting and forecasting
  • Purchase ledger and sales ledger support
  • Assisting with financial reporting and analysis
  • Supporting the Financial Controller with ad-hoc projects
  • Helping to improve finance processes and procedures
  • Producing and analysing financial information
  • Working closely with colleagues across the wider business
  • Taking on additional responsibilities as your knowledge and experience develop

Skills & Experience

We're particularly interested in speaking with candidates who have the drive and ambition to progress, rather than someone who already knows everything.

You could be:

  • A recent Accounting & Finance graduate looking for your first progressive finance role
  • Currently studying AAT Level 4
  • Studying towards CIMA
  • Working within accountancy practice and looking for your first move into industry
  • An Accounts Assistant or Finance Assistant ready to step into a broader Assistant Accountant position

You'll need to be proactive, commercially minded and willing to learn. This is an SME environment, so you'll need to be comfortable getting involved across finance, taking ownership and bringing forward ideas.

What's in it for you?

The biggest attraction is career development.

You'll work closely with an ambitious Financial Controller who is looking for someone they can mentor and develop over the longer term.

You'll receive full study support alongside practical, hands-on experience that will help you progress your accounting career.

The business is growing, meaning the role should develop with you. It's likely to be challenging at times, but for someone who is ambitious and wants to accelerate their career, there is plenty of opportunity to learn and progress.

You'll also receive a strong benefits package, including private medical cover, alongside the opportunity to move towards a more flexible/hybrid working arrangement once established in the role.

If you're ambitious, studying towards an accounting qualification and looking for a role where you'll be mentored, challenged and given the opportunity to progress, we'd love to hear from you.
