A well-established legal practice in Altrincham is looking to appoint an Assistant Accountant to support its finance function. This key role contributes to the effective day-to-day management of the firm's financial activities, ensuring accuracy and adherence to legal accounting regulations.
The role would suit someone with a background in the legal sector or professional services who is comfortable working in a busy, detail-driven environment. Collaborating closely with fee earners, senior management, and support teams, you will be involved in daily banking, reconciliations, financial reporting, and compliance processes. Key Responsibilities:- Complete daily banking duties and bank reconciliations.
- Issue and post cheques.
- Manage all accounts posting and assist with month-end routines and reporting.
- Prepare VAT and PAYE returns.
- Oversee payroll and purchase ledger processes.
- Download and post daily bank statement entries.
- Maintain and utilise online banking systems effectively.
- Input and monitor legal aid claims (where applicable).
- Work with legal case management systems.
- Provide financial support to fee earners and management teams.
- Ensure compliance with Solicitors Accounts Rules (SRA).
- Experience as Assistant Accountant, Legal Cashier, Legal Accounts Clerk, Finance Assistant, or similar.
- Background in legal or wider professional services.
- Highly accurate with strong attention to detail.
- Able to work independently and collaboratively.
- Organised, proactive, and confident in managing competing priorities.
- Strong communication skills and a supportive, team-oriented approach.
