Adecco are pleased to be recruiting for experienced Janitors to work for our client Greater Manchester Police at their location in Longsight. These roles will be working a temporary contract Monday to Friday between 7am and 3pm and 8am and 4pm full time hours. PLEASE NOTE DUE TO THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES HAVING TO UNDERGO POLICE VETTING YOU MUST HAVE RESIDED WITHIN THE UK CONTINUOUSLY FOR AT LEAST 3 YEARS AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- To perform general portering duties, including moving furniture; receiving stores deliveries and distribution of store items; despatch and receipt of laundry, collection and disposal of refuse; and shredding of confidential waste (where appropriate).
- Where applicable the operation of waste and refuse compactor.
- To perform general cleaning duties to include: Grounds and car park areas as appropriate, carpet shampooing, wall cleaning, stripping and sealing floor surfaces, using spray burnishing and other automatic equipment, blinds and light fittings, replenishing roller towels, soap, toilet rolls and other toiletries, kitchen extraction units, high level cleaning, and in wintertime undertake gritting of car parks and paths.
- Setting up and breaking down of rooms for seminars etc. Removal of litter and curtilage.
- To carry out basic maintenance tasks including replacing light bulbs and tubes; fixing curtain rails and signs; affixing notice boards; repairing shelves; repairing/replacing door handles, locks, door strips; re-securing floor coverings; small areas of painting and redecorating.
- To ensure all reasonable safety precautions are taken (including postings warning signs where appropriate) when using equipment and materials and reporting faults to the supervisor.
- To maintain equipment and tools in safe working condition.
- To provide cover for colleagues (janitors and cleaners) and assist with training of new cleaners/janitors as requested.
- To promote and comply with GMP's policies on health and safety both in the delivery of services and the treatment of others.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
- Must have previous janitorial/caretaking/handyman/portering experience, working within a medium to large scale organisation.
- Must have experience of carrying out basic maintenance and minor repairs - replacing light bulbs, fixing curtain rails, mounting shelves, painting etc.
- Must have knowledge of basic cleaning equipment, materials and methods - high level cleaning, carpet cleaning etc.
- Must be fit to carry out the role of a janitor including, lifting, loading, unloading, carrying equipment & furniture, bending, pushing and handling equipment.
- The role will include leaf clearance and spreading grit to car parks, paths and walkways in the winter months plus setting up rooms for meetings and training.
- Must be capable of basic recording/checking functions - weekly fire alarm tests and lift checks, ladder safety checks and asbestos monitoring - training will be provided.
- Must have an understanding of health and safety particularly around manual handling, working at height, COSHH and the safe use of equipment.
- Must have a good attendance and performance record.
- Must hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle for work with insurance for business purposes - multiple sites covered.
