Salary: £32,000 - £40,000 per annum

Location: Widnes, UK

Working Hours: Rotating shifts:

  • Morning Shift: 6:00am - 2:00pm
  • Afternoon Shift: 2:00pm - 10:00pm

Flexibility for overtime and on-call support when required.

About the Role

We are looking for a motivated and hands-on Maintenance Engineer to join our engineering team. This role is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving mechanical and electrical equipment across the site to ensure maximum reliability, efficiency, and safety. The successful candidate will play a key role in minimising downtime, supporting production operations, and driving continuous improvement within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on production machinery and site equipment.
  • Diagnose faults and repair mechanical and electrical systems efficiently to minimise downtime.
  • Conduct routine inspections and identify potential issues before they impact production.
  • Maintain and repair equipment including pumps, motors, conveyors, compressors, gearboxes, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and HVAC equipment.
  • Complete maintenance records, service reports, and documentation accurately using CMMS systems where required.
  • Perform root cause analysis on equipment failures and implement corrective actions to improve reliability.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by recommending equipment upgrades and process improvements.
  • Ensure all work is completed in line with health & safety regulations and company procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with production, operations, and engineering teams to maintain smooth site operations.
  • Assist with spare parts inventory management and liaise with suppliers when required.
  • Support and mentor junior engineers and operators on maintenance best practices.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience within a manufacturing, industrial, FMCG, food, or similar environment.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical maintenance principles.
  • Experience working with hydraulics, pneumatics, conveyors, motors, and control systems.
  • Proven ability to diagnose and resolve faults quickly in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Familiarity with CMMS systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, communication skills, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and as part of a team.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

  • Previous experience within the food, beverage, or brewery industry.
  • Knowledge of predictive maintenance techniques such as vibration analysis, thermography, or oil analysis.
  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Engineering Maintenance or Installation.
  • Experience with PLCs and SCADA systems would be advantageous.
  • C&G 18th Edition qualification desirable but not essential.
  • Additional certifications such as TPM, Six Sigma, or ISO training would be beneficial.
