Responsibilities:
As a Subject Access Request Officer, you will:
- Manage and respond to Subject Access Requests (SARs) in alignment with the Data Protection Act 2018 and UK GDPR.
- Liaise with service areas to locate and retrieve relevant personal data.
- Review and redact third-party or exempt information, utilising redaction software tools.
- Issue information securely within statutory timelines, ensuring compliance and clarity.
- Maintain accurate records in the corporate SAR register for audit purposes.
Essential (Knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience):
- In-depth knowledge of the Data Protection Act 2018, UK GDPR, and ICO guidance on SARs.
- Proven experience handling SARs in a local authority or public sector environment.
- Understanding of social care and HR records, with a keen awareness of the sensitivities involved.
- Strong analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, case management systems, and redaction software.
- Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
- Experience prioritising workloads under pressure and working collaboratively with team members.
Desirable (Knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience):
- Experience with case management systems (e.g., Icase).
- Relevant Data Protection or Information Governance qualifications (e.g., BCS, ISEB, CIPP/E).
- Knowledge of Freedom of Information and Environmental Information Regulations.
