This dynamic organisation is renowned for supplying high-quality equipment solutions across the construction, industrial, events, and infrastructure sectors. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an organised and customer-focused professional to support the day-to-day operations of their depot.
The Role: As the Hire Desk & Driver Supervisor, you will be the heartbeat of the operation, coordinating customer hire requirements, managing transport activities, and fostering the development of the driver team. Your leadership will ensure that customer enquiries are handled with professionalism, deliveries and collections are executed efficiently, and the driver team thrives under your guidance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Hire Desk Operations: Oversee the daily management of the Hire Desk function. Process customer enquiries, quotations, orders, contracts, and off-hires with precision. Deliver exceptional customer service consistently. Collaborate with customers, suppliers, and internal departments regarding equipment availability and transport needs. Partner with the Assistant Branch Manager to enhance equipment utilisation and revenue opportunities. Resolve customer queries and complaints in a professional manner.
- Driver Supervision: Lead the daily activities of the driver team. Coordinate delivery and collection schedules, ensuring optimal route planning and customer satisfaction. Monitor driver performance and adherence to company protocols. Ensure thorough vehicle inspections and documentation are completed. Champion safe working practices and high service standards across the transport team.
- Training & Development: Assist in onboarding and training new drivers. Identify coaching opportunities within the team to foster growth. Support ongoing driver training and compliance requirements. Cultivate a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
- Operational Support: Collaborate closely with workshop and warehouse teams to ensure equipment readiness for dispatch. Provide operational support during peak periods. Maintain accurate records and operational reports. Assist with stock and asset control processes as needed.
- Health, Safety & Compliance: Ensure all transport and hire desk activities align with company policies and legislation. Promote a robust health and safety culture throughout the branch. Support compliance audits and operational inspections.
Candidate Requirements:
- Essential: Experience within the tool hire, plant hire, construction, or transport sector. Proven track record in a busy Hire Desk, customer service, or transport coordination role. Previous supervisory or team leadership experience. Strong organisational and workload management skills. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Proficient IT skills, particularly with hire, transport, or scheduling systems.
- Desirable: Experience supervising drivers or transport operations. Knowledge of compliance requirements related to vehicle operations. Understanding of the equipment hire industry. Relevant CPC, transport, or logistics qualifications.
