Adecco are pleased to be recruiting for a Fleet Vehicle Installation Technician to join North Wales Police at their HQ in St Asaph. This role is working Monday - Friday, 37 hours per week. This is a temporary post, initially until the end of March. It is £15.95 per hour.

OVERALL PURPOSE OF JOB:

To install equipment into vehicles in compliance with industry approved specifications. To fabricate, where required, small bracketry and assemble and install pre-fabricated modular components into vehicles. To test and calibrate newly installed vehicular systems to ensure they operate within designated parameters. To diagnose vehicle emergency equipment faults and determine appropriate solutions to rectify those faults.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • To install equipment and associated wiring systems (e.g. power, lighting, warning, communications, and data systems, etc.) into vehicles in full compliance with approved installation specifications including the removal and re-installation of internal and external vehicle panels and trim to facilitate such installations.
  • To fabricate, where required, mounting solutions to house vehicle equipment that will complement existing vehicle layouts.
  • The assembly and installation into vehicles of pre-fabricated modular components such as load carriers and containment cells.
  • The calibration and road testing of specific installed equipment.
  • When requested by the Senior Vehicle Installer, to carry out vehicle and equipment research and development that will determine the installation location and wiring routing/termination.
  • To assess and diagnose the cause/reason of faults identified with vehicles, vehicle equipment installations and to determine and propose appropriate resolutions for rectification. Where appropriate and necessary, to escalate 'high risk' faults and defects to the attention of the Senior Installer and/or another manager within the department.
  • To maintain accurate records of time spent and work completed on all jobs. (Currently via touch screen system)
  • To keep up to date with installation practices and procedures, this will include training courses and FITAS accreditation.
  • Be responsible for housekeeping of allocated work area.
  • To decommission police equipment from vehicles prior to disposal.
  • Promote and comply with North Wales Police policies on equal opportunities and health and safety both in the delivery of services and the treatment of others, and to adhere to NWP Fleet Workshop protocol.
  • Any other duties as directed by a Supervisory Officer commensurate with the post and salary grading.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

The role requires applicants who can demonstrate (with evidence) skills in the following areas:

  • To possess a minimum level 4 NVQ technical qualification in the automotive field, hold an equivalent qualification or hold evidenced relevant experience.
  • Proven knowledge and experience of general engineering skills including soldering, drilling, cutting, and terminating cables and have experience in the use of electronic test equipment.
  • Proven IT skills with experience of working with vehicle diagnostic equipment, workshop and Microsoft Office products.
  • Self-motivated, innovative in problem solving, proactive in meeting the various challenges the role will present and have the desire to achieve high standards of finish.
  • Clear communication and good interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to work unsupervised and to strict targets and timescales, with excellent time management skills.
  • The postholder will be required to drive force vehicles, therefore must possess a full driving licence.
