Health & Safety Compliance Officer Location: Romford Department: Facilities & Compliance Salary: £35,000 - £38,000 per annum The Opportunity An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Health & Safety Compliance Officer to join a busy centre operation. This role is responsible for ensuring statutory, regulatory, and operational compliance across the site, supporting safe building operations, and driving a positive culture of health, safety, and accountability. Working closely with contractors, tenants, internal stakeholders, and external agencies, you will play a key role in managing audits, inspections, compliance systems, incident response, and statutory requirements while ensuring the centre operates safely and efficiently. Key Responsibilities - A willingness to learn and develop within a compliance-focused role. Full training and mentoring will be provided for the right candidate. Carry out health & safety, fire safety, asbestos, environmental, and tenant compliance audits and inspections, ensuring actions are completed and recorded. Manage permit-to-work processes, contractor controls, pre-start meetings, and fit-out compliance activities. Support incident and pollution response investigations, ensuring issues are appropriately managed, escalated, and resolved. Maintain accurate compliance records, certification, audit documentation, action trackers, and statutory inspection schedules. Coordinate statutory inspections and servicing requirements for site assets including lifts, fire extinguishers, gas systems, PAT testing, MEWPs, and other equipment. Provide clear reporting on compliance performance, risks, incidents, audit outcomes, and statutory compliance status. Build effective relationships with tenants, contractors, insurers, colleagues, and external agencies to ensure compliance obligations are met.What We're Looking For Previous experience within compliance, health & safety, facilities management, property, or operational environments. Experience carrying out audits, inspections, contractor monitoring, and compliance reporting. Knowledge of health & safety, fire safety, environmental, and statutory compliance requirements. Ability to interpret legislation, guidance, reports, and compliance-related information. Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities. Confident communicator with strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to challenge non-compliance professionally. Experience working with contractors, tenants, service providers, or external partners in a regulated environment. Proficient in Microsoft Office and compliance management systems.Desirable NEBOSH or IOSH General Certificate, or equivalent health & safety qualification. Knowledge of fire safety, asbestos management, environmental compliance, and contractor control processes. Relevant qualification in Health & Safety, Compliance, Facilities Management, Environmental Management, or a related discipline. A willingness to learn and develop within a compliance-focused role. Full training and mentoring will be provided for the right candidate.What Success Looks Like All statutory compliance activities and inspections are completed accurately and within required timescales. Compliance records, certificates, and audit documentation are maintained to a high standard. Strong working relationships are built with contractors, tenants, and stakeholders across the site. Compliance risks are identified early, with corrective actions effectively implemented and tracked.
