Our Client is a global organisation with a strong reputation for precision engineering and innovation, they are expanding their UK team and are looking for a skilled Mechanical Fitter to join their Assembly department in Redhill.
The Role
As a Mechanical Fitter, you'll play a key role in the assembly and build of high-precision testing equipment. Working both independently and as part of a collaborative team, you'll be responsible for delivering quality builds that meet exacting standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble and build materials testing machines, mechanical and pneumatic grips, and precision instruments
- Fit mechanical components including wiring looms and electronic displays
- Operate workshop equipment such as pillar drills, manual lathes, and hand tools
- Interpret engineering drawings, assembly drawings, and tolerances
- Ensure parts are correctly prepared, fitted, and adapted for testing
- Carry out quality checks and maintain high standards of workmanship
- Complete all required documentation (work orders, timesheets, etc.)
- Maintain an organised, clean, and safe working environment
- Collaborate with colleagues across departments and support team objectives
- Contribute to continuous improvement by suggesting process enhancements
What We're Looking For
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Apprentice-trained or equivalent (NVQ, HNC, HND or similar in Mechanical Engineering)
- Strong mechanical engineering background
- Competent using precision measuring tools (micrometers, verniers, etc.)
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
- Experience using a range of manual and machine tools
- Understanding of health and safety best practice
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability
Desirable:
- City & Guilds, BTEC, or ONC equivalent
- Experience in a machine build or production environment
