Join Our Team as a Mechanical Technician

Location: Slough - THIS IS A FIELD BASED ROLE AND WILL REQUIRE TRAVEL AROUND UK AIRPORTS.

Contract Type: Permanent

Salary: Up to £40k

Working hours: Predominately Monday to Friday, some night works will be required to accommodate the airport operation and project schedule. (08:00-17:00) or (20:00-05:00)

Candidates must:

  • Have the RTW in the UK (no sponsorship required)
  • Be able to obtain an airside pass
  • Have worked in the UK/have continuous references for the past 5 years
  • Be able to obtain a DBS & clear criminal record
  • Have a Full UK driving licence

Mechanical Technician

Carry out the mechanical assembly of Passenger Boarding Bridges and all associated mechanical elements, including cabins, rotundas, and lifting systems. Work must be performed in line with work orders, material lists, and engineering drawings, while complying with production planning, quality requirements, and safety protocols. The role is responsible for achieving complete and accurate assembly of the boarding bridge within planned timeframes and cost constraints, ensuring all technical specifications defined by the engineering department are met.

Knowledge and Previous Experience

Education / Qualifications

  • Intermediate or higher vocational training in mechanical installations
  • Alternatively, a minimum of 4/5 years' experience in a similar mechanical assembly role

Specific Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and material lists
  • Strong product knowledge relevant to the assigned assembly section
  • Safe handling of tools and mechanical equipment, including:
    • Lifting platforms and ladders
    • Counterweights and props
    • Wheeled tools
    • Textile and cable slings
    • Electric welding equipment
    • Grinders
    • Self-propelled cranes
    • Forklifts

Desirable Knowledge and Skills

  • IPAF MEWP operator licence
  • SSSTS certificate (Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme)
  • Valid CSCS card

Main Tasks and Activities

  • Install boarding bridge columns
  • Complete cabin assembly in accordance with engineering drawings
  • Assemble tunnels and correctly adjust telescopic sections
  • Install lifting systems
  • Assemble translation systems
  • Assemble and cover the rotunda
  • Install auxiliary equipment
  • Conduct final assembly inspections in line with internal protocols
  • Disassemble necessary walkway components for transportation
  • Carry out occasional repair or modification works on components, equipment, and auxiliary installations

All assembly activities must be completed in accordance with engineering plans, production schedules, and established timelines.

Health and Safety

Knowledge of job-related risks and preventive measures

Safe use and handling of equipment such as:

  • Overhead cranes
  • Forklifts
  • Aerial work platforms

Correct use, inspection, and maintenance of issued personal protective equipment (PPE)

Understanding of procedures to follow:

  • In case of an accident
  • In emergency situations
