My client is one of the largest financial institutions headquartered in Japan, with an established presence across all consumer and corporate banking businesses. Through its subsidiaries and affiliates, they offer a diverse range of financial services, including commercial banking, leasing, securities, credit card, consumer finance and other services.
They are looking for an Oversight and Controls VP on a 12-month contract. You will be expected to work Monday to Friday standard office hours, however there will need to be flexibility to work outside of these hours as required. The position is hybrid working being in the office 2-3 days a week with the remainder of time working from home.
This role supports the uplift of the Non-Financial Risk Framework within the 1st Line of Defence, ensuring compliance with EMEA regulatory expectations and enhancing operational resilience. It plays a key role in embedding a proactive risk culture and strengthening the control environment across the business. You will be supporting their rapidly growing Global Banking business.
Description
- Provide oversight and challenge to risk and control owners, ensuring risks are identified, assessed, and mitigated in line with risk appetite.
- Lead thematic reviews, root cause analysis of operational incidents, and remediation of control weaknesses.
- Support governance forums with insightful risk MI and contribute to regulatory readiness.
- Collaborate with 2LoD and 3LoD to ensure alignment with internal policies and external regulatory standards.
In this role you will be responsible for:
- Embedding a robust risk and control framework across the SFS and CIB businesses, ensuring alignment with business strategy and regulatory expectations.
- Leading risk reviews and control assessments to ensure operational resilience and regulatory compliance.
- Acting as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders on risk mitigation and control design.
For you to succeed in the role, you'll need to have:
- Proven experience in risk and control functions within regulated financial institutions.
- Strong understanding of EMEA regulatory frameworks.
- Excellent analytical and stakeholder engagement skills.
Competencies
- Proven experience in a private side (business aligned) non-financial risk team.
- Client Coverage, knowledge of Structured Lending, Capital Markets and Advisory non-financial risk identification and management frameworks/processes, will be considered highly advantageous.
