We are currently recruiting for a Transport Route Planner / Supervisor to join a fast‑paced and dynamic transport operation based on the outskirts of Cockermouth. This is a temp‑to‑perm opportunity with an immediate start, offering a great chance to secure a long‑term role within a growing business.

The Role

This is a hands‑on, varied position where you'll play a key role in planning and supervising daily transport routes. Working closely with drivers and the wider operations team, you'll ensure deliveries are completed efficiently, compliantly, and to a high standard of customer service. You'll need to be highly organised, proactive, and confident in making quick decisions in a fast‑moving environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and schedule daily transport routes in line with vehicle capacity and customer requirements
  • Optimise routes to ensure cost‑effective and efficient delivery operations
  • Allocate routes and provide drivers with all necessary instructions and documentation
  • Monitor live delivery progress and respond to delays or changes as they arise
  • Maintain clear communication with drivers and the transport team throughout the day
  • Support the Transport Manager with investigations, escalations, and compliance matters
  • Conduct driver briefings
  • Handle people management issues, following processes and completing relevant paperwork
  • Ensure all updates and key information are communicated effectively across teams

What We're Looking For

  • Previous experience in a transport planning, coordination or supervisory role (desirable)
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Strong organisational skills with a keen eye for detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Ability to adapt quickly and remain calm under pressure
  • Good understanding of local geography, routing, and scheduling best practices
