Contract Type: Temporary – INITIALLY TO COVER 3 MONTHS BUT COULD LEAD TO PERMANENT OR EXTENDED
Hourly Rate: £13.50 – £15.00
Working Pattern: Full Time (Monday – Friday, 8 AM to 4 PM)

About the Role:
As a Maintenance/Facilities Assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring our manufacturing site remains safe, functional, and compliant with health and safety regulations. You\’ll be the go-to person for general maintenance and repair services, supporting our maintenance team in delivering a high standard of upkeep for buildings, equipment, and infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform routine maintenance tasks, including minor plumbing, carpentry, painting, and grounds maintenance (think grass cutting and weeding!).
Conduct regular site inspections to identify and address potential hazards or maintenance needs.
Respond promptly to maintenance requests and breakdowns, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
Assist with the setup and dismantling of equipment, furniture, and fixtures as needed.
Keep accurate records of work completed, materials used, and safety checks.
Support external contractors on-site, ensuring compliance with company safety procedures.
Ensure all tools and equipment are used safely and stored appropriately.
Participate in emergency response procedures, including fire drills and first aid support if trained.

Health & Safety Responsibilities:

Adhere strictly to all site-specific health and safety policies and procedures.
Use appropriate PPE at all times and ensure others do the same.
Report any unsafe conditions, near misses, or incidents immediately.
Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with risk assessments and method statements.
Participate in health and safety training and toolbox talks.
Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement across the site.

Person Specification:

Essential:

Proven experience in a similar maintenance or handy person role.
Basic knowledge of plumbing, painting, groundskeeping, and general building maintenance.
Strong understanding of health and safety regulations in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Good communication and problem-solving skills.
Carry out manual tasks.

Desirable:

Relevant trade qualifications or certifications (e.g., PAT testing, first aid, manual handling, working at height).
Experience working in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
