I'm currently supporting a leading manufacturing organisation in Wrexham that is investing heavily in automation, innovation, and next‐generation engineering technology. This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly respected automation department that designs, builds, and implements bespoke automated equipment and production lines for both UK and overseas sites.

In this role, you will be involved in full‐lifecycle automation projects – from concept and design through to build, testing, and implementation. The team works with advanced technologies including 3D CAD, industrial robots, Cobots, 3D printing, smart‐factory systems, Industry 4.0, and emerging AI‐driven solutions.

This position is perfect for an engineer who thrives in a hands‐on, creative environment and enjoys delivering custom automation solutions that genuinely make an impact.

The Role

As an Automation Mechatronic Engineer, you will play a key part in designing, developing, and implementing innovative mechatronic systems. You will need a solid foundation in electrical engineering principles, PLC/HMI systems, industrial networks, and control panel design.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design & Development: Create electrical control systems, control panels, automation solutions, and detailed electrical schematics.
  • PLC/HMI Programming: Develop, configure, and test PLC and HMI applications (Keyence, Omron, Beckhoff, etc.).
  • Technical Documentation: Produce technical drawings, schematics, BOMs, and related engineering documents.
  • System Integration: Integrate sensors, actuators, PLCs, HMIs, drives, motion systems, and networks into complete solutions.
  • Troubleshooting & Support: Diagnose control system issues and support commissioning activities.
  • Project Involvement: Participate in planning, design reviews, and delivery of engineering projects.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with mechanical engineers, software teams, project managers, and automation builders.
  • Compliance: Ensure all designs meet relevant electrical, safety, and industry standards.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay up to date with emerging technologies and contribute to system advancements.

About You

  • Degree or HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience in control panel design, electrical schematics, and component selection.
  • PLC programming and HMI development experience (Keyence, Omron, Beckhoff, or similar).
  • Understanding of automation systems, sensors, actuators, and safety circuits.
  • Knowledge of industrial communication networks (e.g., Ethernet/IP).
  • Strong analytical and problem‐solving ability.
  • Excellent communication and team‐working skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
