My client is one of the largest financial institutions headquartered in Japan, with an established presence across all consumer and corporate banking businesses.

Through its subsidiaries and affiliates, they offer a diverse range of financial services, including commercial banking, leasing, securities, credit card, consumer finance and other services.

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Loan Operations and Business Change specialist to join the Execution Control team within a leading international bank.

You will be hybrid working being office based 3 days a week with the remainder of time working from home, Monday to Friday standard office hours with the requirement to work outside of those hours during busy periods.

The position is being offered on a contract to the end of March 2027 with the potential to extend

This is a senior role requiring an individual who can operate independently as a subject matter expert across loan products, lending operations, controls and business change initiatives.

The successful candidate will act as a trusted deputy on strategic projects, support the implementation of enhanced controls and governance frameworks, and play a key role in operational transformation initiatives driven by evolving regulatory requirements.

The role will suit someone with a strong background in loan operations, execution control, loan documentation or syndicated lending, combined with significant exposure to projects, process improvement, controls implementation and stakeholder management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Loan Operations & Subject Matter Expertise
  • Act as a senior subject matter expert across syndicated loans, bilateral lending and related operational activities.
  • Provide guidance and oversight on complex lending transactions and lifecycle events.
  • Review operational impacts of loan agreements, facility amendments and transaction structures.
  • Support teams in the interpretation and implementation of lending documentation and facility terms.
  • Partner with Front Office, Credit, Legal, Compliance and Operations teams to ensure effective transaction execution and risk management.
  • Identify and escalate operational risks, control weaknesses and process inefficiencies.
  • Business Change & Project Delivery
  • Support and lead strategic business change initiatives impacting lending operations and execution control functions.
  • Act as the operational SME and deputy project lead on multiple concurrent projects.
  • Participate in system implementations, migrations, regulatory change programmes and operational transformation initiatives.
  • Work closely with Technology, Operations, Risk and business stakeholders to deliver project objectives.
  • Assist with project planning, testing, implementation and post-go-live support activities.
  • Support operational readiness activities and ensure successful adoption of change.
  • Controls, Governance & Regulatory Change
  • Support the design, implementation and enhancement of operational controls and governance frameworks.
  • Contribute to initiatives linked to evolving regulatory requirements and control enhancements.
  • Participate in control reviews, audits and governance activities.
  • Work with stakeholders to streamline processes while maintaining a strong control environment.
  • Help define and implement best practices across execution control and loan operations functions.
  • Ensure procedures and controls remain aligned to regulatory and internal policy requirements.
  • Process Improvement & Operational Excellence
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, scalability and service delivery.
  • Develop and maintain procedures, process maps, control documentation and operational guidance.
  • Drive standardisation and consistency across operational processes.
  • Support management information, reporting and control metrics.
  • Assist with training and mentoring colleagues across the wider team.

Skills & Experience

  • Significant experience within Loan Operations, Execution Control, Loan Documentation, Agency Management or Syndicated Lending.
  • Strong understanding of loan products and the end-to-end loan lifecycle.
  • Experience operating as a senior SME within a banking environment.
  • Proven involvement in business change, transformation, migration or operational improvement projects.
  • Experience implementing or enhancing controls, governance frameworks and operating procedures.
  • Strong stakeholder management experience across Front Office, Legal, Credit Risk, Compliance, Technology and Operations.
  • Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and organisational skills.
  • Experience supporting complex operational or regulatory change initiatives.
  • Loan IQ experience.
  • Syndicated loan and agency management experience.
  • Regulatory change programme experience.
  • Previous management or team leadership responsibilities.
  • Experience working within international banking environments.
