Junior Materials Buyer / Progress Coordinator
Maternity Fixed Term Contract – 14 months

Our client, an established manufacturing company, is seeking a Junior Materials Buyer / Progress Coordinator to join their Purchasing Team. As a key member of the team, you will play a vital role in driving and developing their fast-paced and growing business. Reporting to the Works Manager, you will be responsible for implementing the company\’s manufacturing performance strategy, reporting on weekly throughput and targets, and coordinating materials between stores and the manufacturing team.
Key Responsibilities:
Process and manage orders to ensure suppliers deliver within the correct time frames, adhering to all cost and stock hold requirements.
Utilise your expertise in manufacturing-based MRP systems to solve problems and minimise the risk of excess stock and costs.
Proactively identify cost-saving opportunities through consolidation, negotiation with existing suppliers, and sourcing new suppliers.
Ensure that existing suppliers maintain agreed cost and lead-time agreements.
Prepare and circulate internal management reports.
Maintain accurate data inputted into the system for optimal visibility in planning and production departments.
Collaborate closely with customer-facing managers to ensure informed and accurate purchasing decisions.
Skills and Qualifications:
Previous experience in a buying role, preferably within manufacturing.
Familiarity with procurement platforms (Sage/CIM).
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage with customers, clients, and internal colleagues at all levels.
Strong administrative and data entry skills with keen attention to detail.
Experience and knowledge of producing accurate costings.
Proficiency in negotiation.
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.
Proven ability to self-manage workload and work independently.
Strong work ethic with a commitment to honesty and hard work.
Desirable:
Ability to build effective working relationships across all levels of an organisation.
Excellent communication skills when interacting with senior staff and managers.
Solid understanding of manufacturing processes.
