Do you thrive at the intersection of systems change, collaboration and social impact? Are you passionate about strengthening the voice and influence of the Voluntary, Community and Faith Sector (VCFS) in health and care? This is a unique opportunity to play a strategic leadership role at a pivotal moment for Croydon.
The One Croydon Alliance brings together Croydon Council, Croydon Health Services, the Croydon GP Collaborative, South London and Maudsley, and the VCFS to improve the health and wellbeing of Croydon residents. Guided by the Croydon Health and Wellbeing Strategy, our shared ambition is clear: Everyone in Croydon should live healthy, happy and fulfilling lives – with the fastest improvements for those experiencing the poorest health.
The VCFS Leadership Board, established in 2021, connects VCFS organisations working in health and care and acts as a bridge to the hundreds of large and small VCFS organisations supporting communities across the borough.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a strategic, experienced Development Lead to help the VCFS Leadership Board grow, strengthen and evolve at a critical time. As the One Croydon Alliance refreshes its Alliance Agreement – shaped by the NHS Ten Year Plan and the Neighbourhood Health and Care agenda – you will help redefine how the VCFS collaborates, influences decision‑making and works alongside statutory partners. Your work will support the shift towards prevention, early intervention and reducing health inequalities.
What You’ll Do
- Reshape Board membership and Terms of Reference, strengthening engagement across VCFS networks and ensuring meaningful representation of grassroots and minoritised groups.
- Support the Board to define clear outcomes, deliverables and success measures.
- Develop effective methods of collaboration, shared decision‑making and co‑creation.
- Design sustainable, long‑term ways of working that embed VCFS involvement and representation within the One Croydon Alliance.
- Enable a wider, more connected networked model for VCFS leadership and influence.
About You
- Senior leadership experience within the VCFS, public sector and/or cross‑sector systems.
- A strong track record in system change, complex programmes or partnership environments.
- Deep understanding of the VCFS landscape and the health and care system.
- Exceptional facilitation, influencing and communication skills.
- A clear commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, including amplifying seldom‑heard voices.
Contract Details
- Duration: 9‑12 months
- Status: Contractor, outside IR35
- Commitment: 2‑4 days per week
- Rate: Open to discussion
- Location: Some face‑to‑face meetings and time working from office bases in Croydon
Why This Role Matters
This is more than a contract. It’s a chance to shape how communities, the VCFS and statutory partners work together – and to leave a lasting legacy for how health and care systems listen to and work with communities.
