Role:

To provide a Substance Misuse bespoke homeless prevention and intervention caseworker service to those approaching the service with a housing need. To carry out early homeless prevention activities. Advise on housing issues, welfare benefits, and substance misuse, assessing support needs and working with internal and external services to alleviate homelessness and provide sustainable housing solutions. Conduct in-depth homelessness enquiries and make legally sound decisions under relevant legislation. Work with substance misuse clients and support colleagues through briefings, workshops, or practical support.

Key Duties:

  • Be the first point of contact for those with a housing need, via Access Croydon, the Library, or telephone duty line.
  • Provide initial housing advice and information on housing options and homelessness prevention.
  • Respond to referrals under the Duty to Refer.
  • Work with households, agencies, landlords, and services to identify risks and find solutions to prevent homelessness.
  • Negotiate or mediate to sustain tenancies and prevent or resolve homelessness.
  • Provide confidential advice on housing rights and obligations.
  • Promote the Council's homeless prevention agenda and utilize available prevention tools.
