Band Saw Operative £13.18 per hour Overview A Band Saw Operative is required for our superb client based outside of Hazel Grove. Responsible for safely and accurately cutting large metal materials to specification using industrial band saw machinery, the ideal candidate will be experienced but will also have full detailed training and support. The role requires strict adherence to safety standards, strong mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work rotating shifts in a fast‑paced production setting. Working Hours Monday to Friday, rotating weekly: 06:00 – 14:00 14:00 – 22:00 Flexibility required to meet production demands. Key Responsibilities Operate heavy‑duty band saw machinery to cut industrial metal materials to precise measurements. Set up, adjust, and calibrate equipment depending on metal type, thickness, and cutting requirements. Handle and manoeuvre heavy metal components using safe manual handling techniques or lifting equipment. Inspect materials for defects and verify accurate sizing, quality, and tolerances. Monitor blade performance; replace or adjust blades when needed. Maintain machinery cleanliness and perform basic preventative maintenance. Adhere to all site safety rules, including PPE, lock‑out/tag‑out, and machine safety procedures. Record job details, cutting quantities, and material usage for production tracking. Work collaboratively with fabrication, warehouse, and production teams to meet deadlines. Skills & Competencies Experience operating band saws or similar cutting machinery for industrial metal. Ability to interpret technical drawings, cutting lists, and job sheets. Strong awareness of safety in a heavy industrial environment. Confident with manual handling and operating lifting aids (e.g., cranes, hoists, pallet trucks). Mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting minor equipment issues. High attention to detail and accuracy when working with measurements. Good communication and teamwork skills across shifts. Typical Experience & Qualifications Previous experience in a heavy industrial metal or fabrication environment. Knowledge of metal types, cutting properties, and machine setup. Health & Safety training (e.g., manual handling, machine operation, safe systems of work). Experience with industrial cutting equipment highly advantageous.
