Job Description
Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
Our client is looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join their specialist engineering team, designing and developing innovative cutting tools, tooling solutions, and precision-engineered components for a range of industrial applications.
This role is ideal for an engineer with 5+ years' experience in mechanical design within a manufacturing environment, who understands both the technical and practical aspects of designing products for efficient production and performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop cutting tools, tooling systems, and precision-engineered components.
- Produce detailed SolidWorks 3D models, 2D CAD drawings, BOMs, and manufacturing documentation.
- Drive product development from concept through prototype, testing, and production.
- Apply mechanical engineering principles to optimise tool performance, durability, and manufacturability.
- Work closely with production, CNC machining, and commercial teams to deliver innovative engineering solutions.
- Support continuous improvement, product enhancement, and new product introduction projects.
- Liaise with customers and internal stakeholders to understand and translate technical requirements into practical designs.
About You
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a Mechanical Design Engineer role.
- Strong proficiency in SolidWorks and 2D CAD.
- Experience designing components or products for manufacture within a precision engineering or tooling environment.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, machining methods, materials, and Design for Manufacture (DfM).
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.
Desirable
- Experience within the cutting tool, tooling, precision machining, or metalworking industries.
- Knowledge of CNC machining, tool geometry, and product validation.
- Familiarity with FEA and engineering calculations.
