Join a critical operational team. We are recruiting on behalf of a leading defence contractor for a Fuels Technician to join a well-established team at RAF Fairford. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a practical or mechanical background to move into a specialist role supporting aviation and defence operations.
Reporting to the Fuels Supervisor, you will work in a hands-on environment where safety, accuracy, and reliability are essential. No previous fuels experience is required, and full training will be provided. Candidates from mechanical or hands-on backgrounds such as mechanics, mechanical engineers, or plumbers are encouraged to apply.
Day to day, you will be working with fuel systems, receiving and transferring fuel, operating equipment, and carrying out checks and testing to ensure safe and efficient operations.
Key responsibilities:- Supporting day to day fuel operations across ground fuels, aviation fuels, and cryogenic systems.
- Supporting the receipt, storage and distribution of fuel through pipelines and tanker vehicles.
- Operating fuel systems, storage facilities and related equipment.
- Carrying out fuel sampling and testing to ensure quality standards are met.
- Monitoring fuel levels and assisting with stock planning.
- Following operational procedures and adapting to changing requirements.
- Maintaining accurate records and supporting reporting requirements.
This role operates in a highly regulated environment and safety is a top priority. You will:
- Follow UK Health and Safety regulations and USAF standards.
- Ensure compliance with all operational, environmental and quality procedures.
- Handle fuels and hazardous materials safely and responsibly.
- Work closely with health, safety and quality teams.
- Adhere to mandatory programmes and operational policies.
This is a hands-on role working both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. You should be comfortable with:
- Manual handling tasks.
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Working in a fast-paced and sometimes noisy environment.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Basic IT skills including Microsoft Office.
- Good communication skills both written and verbal.
- Ability to follow instructions and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
- Background in a hands-on or mechanical role such as mechanic, engineer or plumber.
- ADR or CPC Class 2 licence.
- Experience in fuels operations or similar environments.
- Familiarity with military or defence environments.
This role requires Security Clearance. The process will be supported by the client; however, candidates must be confident they meet UK residency and background requirements to successfully obtain clearance. Start dates will be dependent on clearance completion.
Additional information:Flexibility is required as shift times may change, and occasional night work or overtime may be required. Contract length may extend beyond the initial period based on operational requirements.
