Adecco are recruiting for a Farm Manager to join South Gloucestershire Council on a temporary basis to cover long term sick. They are paying 20 per hour. You would be based on Grimsbury Farm which is a small working farm, located on the North Bristol urban fringe of Kingswood (BS15 9SE).

Working hours: 8.30am to 5.30pm with breaks in the morning, lunchtime and afternoon. Out-of-hours flexibility will be required to attend to any unplanned animal illness and during the birthing period of any of the breeding livestock. This role will be required to work every other weekend, having every Friday off in lieu of the weekend work rota.

The farm is open to the public, free to access and showcases an assortment of farm animal species, poultry and small animals.

Summary of main tasks and responsibilities:

  • Manage the daily welfare programme of all animals and birds at the farm by setting own work priorities and organising an appropriate staff routine of proactive inspection and care, including regular feeding, cleaning and watering, vaccinations, basic medical treatments and organising routine specialist care such as farrier services.
  • Care of breeding livestock, such as calving, farrowing and kidding of the larger farm animal species, including liaising with our Veterinary team when required.
  • Manage and supervise the farm staff and volunteers, directing their work according to the service need and ensuring compliance with safe working practices and the council's policies, procedures and Code of Conduct.
  • Be accountable for compliance with Government legislation and requirements related to livestock farm management and maintaining all required medical and animal records necessary for legal compliance, good farm practice and management.
  • Manage safe visitor access to the publicly accessible areas of the farm during opening hours; including opening up to the public at 9am and closing the farm at 4pm/5pm depending on the time of the year.
  • Facilitate basic maintenance of farm buildings, fences, gates and animal pens for the safety and welfare of the animals and the visiting public.
