About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated Duty Manager to provide operational leadership for our Refuse and Recycling Collections Service. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real impact in ensuring efficient waste and recycling operations across Newham. You will be responsible for deploying resources, managing day-to-day operational issues, and leading a large team of frontline staff. Your role will ensure compliance with Council policies, health and safety standards, and performance targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a large team of frontline staff, ensuring compliance with disciplinary, capability, and sickness procedures.
- Oversee daily operations of waste and recycling services, including staff development and performance appraisals.
- Deploy resources effectively to maximise productivity and ensure compliance with road transport legislation.
- Monitor service performance against financial and productivity targets.
- Ensure health and safety compliance, conduct risk assessments, and manage accident/incident investigations.
- Plan and organise waste and recycling routes for maximum efficiency.
- Respond to complaints and implement corrective measures.
- Deputise for the Waste and Recycling Collections Manager when required.

- Strong understanding of frontline service delivery.
