The Opportunity
We're working with a local authority seeking an experienced Housing Lawyer to join their Legal Services team on a locum basis. This is an excellent opportunity to handle a diverse and high‑profile caseload, advising on complex housing law matters and supporting key council functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide highly technical and specialist legal advice across housing law, including homelessness, community safety, judicial review, inquests, and inquiries.
- Conduct both straightforward and complex proceedings, including evaluation of evidence, case preparation, strategic case management, and advocacy where required.
- Advise clients on legal risks and potential challenges, including judicial review, and provide mitigation strategies.
- Represent the council in court, tribunals, and key stakeholder meetings.
- Manage a busy caseload independently, ensuring deadlines and service standards are met.
Key Skills & Experience
- Strong experience in housing law within a local authority or public sector setting.
- Proven ability to manage complex litigation and casework, including advocacy where appropriate.
- Experience advising on judicial review and public law risks.
- Ability to manage a high‑volume caseload autonomously.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to deliver clear, practical legal advice to non‑legal stakeholders.
