About the Role

We are seeking a proactive and highly organised Business Support Officer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will play a key part in supporting Housing Benefit administration, delivering excellent customer service, and ensuring efficient day-to-day operational support across the service. This is a fast-paced, customer-focused position where attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support customers in completing Housing Benefit claims accurately, ensuring all necessary information and documentation is gathered.
  • Proactively engage with clients, including making outbound calls to progress claims and resolve queries.
  • Provide sensitive and professional support to vulnerable residents, including those in temporary accommodation.
  • Process high volumes of administrative work, including indexing and managing incoming post.
  • Maintain accurate records, ensuring all data is correctly logged and up to date.
  • Liaise with external stakeholders, including Temporary Accommodation providers, to coordinate key handovers and transitions.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across Business Support Services to ensure smooth service delivery.

About You

  • Housing Benefit knowledge: Experience in Housing Benefit administration or similar environments.
  • Excellent communication skills: Confident in communicating with a wide range of customers, including making outbound calls and handling sensitive conversations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills: Able to work with empathy, patience, and professionalism when supporting vulnerable individuals.
  • Teamwork and collaboration: Comfortable working in a team environment and contributing to shared goals.
  • Organisation and accuracy: Skilled at managing high workloads with strong attention to detail.
  • Stakeholder engagement: Experience working with external partners and service providers.
  • ICT proficiency: Competent in Microsoft Office and internal systems for data processing and record-keeping.
