Croydon Council is seeking motivated and reliable Grounds Maintenance Operatives to join our team on a temporary basis. In this role, you will primarily work as part of a grass cutting team, helping to maintain parks, open spaces, and highways verges across the borough. This is a physical, outdoor role where your work will directly contribute to keeping Croydon's green spaces well-maintained and safe for public use.
Key Responsibilities
- Grass cutting across parks, open spaces, and highway verges
- Operating machinery such as strimmers, brush cutters, and pedestrian mowers
- Using hand or backpack blowers to clear grass and debris
- Hedge cutting, pruning, and general plant maintenance
- Weeding and removal of basal growth from trees
- Supporting a range of grounds maintenance tasks as part of a small team
What We're Looking For
- Experience in grounds maintenance or horticultural work (desirable but not essential)
- Ability to safely operate equipment such as strimmers, hedge cutters, and mowers
- Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work effectively as part of a team
- A proactive and hardworking approach to duties
Location
Daily start and finish at Central Nursery Depot, Conduit Lane (CR0 5RQ). Work carried out across the London Borough of Croydon.
