We are seeking an experienced and self-motivated Commercial Air Conditioning Service & Breakdown Engineer to carry out service, maintenance, fault-finding, and breakdown repair across commercial and domestic properties. This is a mobile role requiring regular travel across the West & East Midlands, with occasional wider UK coverage. Flexibility, professionalism, and a strong focus on first-time fix rates and customer service are essential.
Responsibilities
- Carry out routine servicing, maintenance, and safety checks on air conditioning systems.
- Attend breakdowns to diagnose faults and complete repairs in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Use technical knowledge to deliver high first-time-fix results and excellent customer care.
- Make informed decisions when job requirements differ from original work orders and report changes to management.
- Communicate clearly with customers when repairs cannot be completed on the first visit and arrange follow-up work.
Operational Duties
- Complete daily responsive maintenance tasks as instructed.
- Direct and support assistants in the assembly or installation of systems or components.
- Liaise with management and clients to ensure work is completed efficiently and to required standards.
- Ensure all works comply with current industry codes, regulations, and safe working practices.
- Follow all client site rules and regulations.
- Adopt a "best value, cost-effective" approach when sourcing/purchasing materials.
Documentation & Compliance
- Accurately complete all required paperwork and return it promptly.
- Ensure all training and qualifications remain up to date.
- Maintain company vehicle, tools, and equipment in clean, safe, and serviceable condition.
- Participate in site audits, vehicle audits, post-work inspections, quotations, and engineer meetings.
- Comply with all company policies, procedures, and health & safety requirements.
Additional Responsibilities
- Actively identify and report opportunities for additional works or improvements.
- Participate in the company's out-of-hours emergency call-out rota when required.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Recognised air conditioning apprenticeship or equivalent qualification.
- Strong commercial air conditioning experience, including fault finding, servicing, repairs, and maintenance.
- Competent in the use of test equipment including electrical multi-meters.
- Flexible approach to working hours and travel.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to prioritise workload effectively.
- Willingness to undertake additional training and development.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Basic IT literacy.
