Adecco are delighted to be recruiting for a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer on behalf of a leading engineering and manufacturing organisation based in Gloucestershire. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced mechanical engineer to take ownership of complex engineering projects, delivering high-quality design solutions from concept through to manufacture. Acting as a key technical authority within the business, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring engineering excellence, product quality and compliance with industry standards.
The successful candidate will work closely with internal stakeholders, customers and suppliers, providing technical leadership and engineering expertise across multiple projects and business functions.
Design & Technical Leadership
- Produce high-quality mechanical designs, calculations and technical documentation.
- Take ownership of engineering design packages from initial concept through to production release.
- Ensure designs meet customer requirements, industry standards and regulatory obligations.
- Act as the technical authority for assigned projects and engineering activities.
- Support design reviews and engineering decision-making processes.
Project & Business Support
- Provide technical support to Manufacturing, Operations, Quality and Commercial teams.
- Support project delivery through effective planning, communication and technical problem solving.
- Attend internal and external meetings as required to support engineering and business objectives.
- Ensure all engineering activities comply with relevant standards, legislation and company procedures.
- Apply sound engineering judgement and risk management principles throughout the design process.
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and right-first-time engineering practices.
- Support continuous improvement activities across the engineering function.
Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering (BEng, MEng or equivalent). Proven experience within a mechanical design engineering environment. Strong experience delivering engineering projects within manufacturing, industrial or heavy engineering sectors. Ability to take technical ownership of complex design activities. Proficiency with 2D and 3D CAD software such as Creo, AutoCAD or similar. Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities. Working knowledge of ERP systems such as SAP. Experience supporting manufacturing and production operations.
