We are currently recruiting for a Transport Route Planner / Supervisor to join a fast-paced and dynamic transport operation based on the outskirts of Cockermouth. This is a temp-to-perm opportunity with an immediate start, offering a great chance to secure a long-term role within a growing business.
The Role
This is a hands-on, varied position where you'll play a key role in planning and supervising daily transport routes. Working closely with drivers and the wider operations team, you'll ensure deliveries are completed efficiently, compliantly, and to a high standard of customer service. You'll need to be highly organised, proactive, and confident in making quick decisions in a fast-moving environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and schedule daily transport routes in line with vehicle capacity and customer requirements
- Optimise routes to ensure cost-effective and efficient delivery operations
- Allocate routes and provide drivers with all necessary instructions and documentation
- Monitor live delivery progress and respond to delays or changes as they arise
- Maintain clear communication with drivers and the transport team throughout the day
- Support the Transport Manager with investigations, escalations, and compliance matters
- Conduct driver briefings
- Handle people management issues, following processes and completing relevant paperwork
- Ensure all updates and key information are communicated effectively across teams
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience in a transport planning, coordination or supervisory role (desirable)
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Strong organisational skills with a keen eye for detail
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Ability to adapt quickly and remain calm under pressure
- Good understanding of local geography, routing, and scheduling best practices
