Job Purpose
To plan, prepare and deliver nutritious, high quality meals for residents in a 67 bed residential care home, ensuring all meals meet individual dietary requirements, preferences and relevant health and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook fresh, appetising meals for up to 67 residents, including breakfast, lunch and evening meals
- Plan menus that are nutritionally balanced, seasonal and compliant with care home standards
- Cater for special dietary needs (e.g. diabetes, allergies, vegetarian, puréed/soft diets)
- Maintain high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness and kitchen safety in line with HACCP and Food Safety regulations
- Manage stock control, ordering and storage of food supplies to minimise waste
- Work collaboratively with care, nursing and management teams to ensure residents' needs are met
- Maintain accurate food records and support inspections by regulatory bodies
- Supervise and support kitchen assistants where applicable
Skills and Experience Required
- Proven experience as a chef or cook, ideally within a care home, healthcare or similar setting
- Knowledge of special diets and nutrition for older people
- Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2 minimum - Level 3 desirable)
- Ability to work calmly and effectively in a busy environment
