City of Wolverhampton Council is looking for an experienced EHCP Writer to join our SEND Assessment & Planning Team. In this vital role, you'll help shape the futures of children and young people aged 0-25 by producing high-quality, person-centred Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

About the Role

As an EHCP Writer, you'll be responsible for drafting and maintaining legally compliant, high-quality EHCPs that reflect the unique needs, aspirations, and outcomes of children and young people. You'll work collaboratively with families, schools, health professionals, and social care to ensure every plan is robust, transparent, and delivered within statutory timescales.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of annual review decisions within a matrix team
  • Produce and amend detailed, legally compliant EHCPs
  • Incorporate professional advice from education, health, and social care
  • Ensure compliance with the Children and Families Act 2014 and SEND Code of Practice
  • Communicate effectively with families and stakeholders
  • Identify gaps or inconsistencies in reports and seek clarification
  • Prepare documentation for panels, mediation, and tribunals
  • Contribute to service improvement and best practice in EHCP writing
  • Maintain accurate records across case management systems

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience as an EHCP Writer (essential)
  • Strong understanding of SEND legislation and statutory frameworks
  • Experience working within local authority SEND services
  • Ability to produce clear, high-quality, person-centred plans
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work to tight deadlines
