Our client is a well‑established UK manufacturing business operating within a fast‑paced, component‑driven environment. They provide end‑to‑end manufacturing solutions and work with a diverse customer base across multiple industries. Due to continued growth, they are now looking to recruit a Purchasing Assistant to support their Commercial and Purchasing teams at their Essex site.
The Role
As Purchasing Assistant, you will support the day‑to‑day buying of components and materials to ensure production and customer requirements are met. This is a hands‑on role offering excellent exposure to purchasing, supply chain and manufacturing operations, ideal for someone looking to develop a long‑term career in purchasing. You will work closely with internal teams including Purchasing, Production, Operations and Account Management, as well as external suppliers.
Key Responsibilities
- Raise purchase orders for components and materials in line with business requirements
- Liaise with suppliers to obtain pricing, availability and delivery information
- Expedite open orders and chase overdue deliveries to maintain production flow
- Support supplier delivery rescheduling, cancellations and push‑outs
- Maintain accurate purchasing and supplier data within MRP / ERP systems
- Assist with cost data and pricing information for new projects and quotations
- Ensure purchasing documentation and records are accurate and up to date
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the purchasing function
- Provide general support to the wider Commercial team as required
Skills & Experience Required
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment, ideally electronics or component‑based
- Previous experience in a purchasing, buying or supply chain support role
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Good numeracy skills and confidence using Excel and databases
- Clear, professional communication skills for dealing with suppliers and internal teams
- Experience using MRP / ERP or stock management systems is advantageous
