About the Role
As an Assistant Engineer, you will play a crucial role in managing highway and open space structures. Your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with inspection, assessment, strengthening design, replacement design, and new structure design.
- Participating in the technical approval process for proposed structures.
- Supporting the inspection and enhancement of road restraint systems.
- Supervising team members and providing guidance when necessary.
- Contributing to the development of Quality Management processes and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the design of improvements and new structures, ensuring compliance with current codes of practise and European standards.
- Supervise construction of developer-promoted structures.
- Prepare Approval in Principle documents following the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges.
- Participate in Principal and General Inspections of our Structures Assets.
- Manage projects within the Council\’s capital programme.
What We\’re Looking For
- A degree, HNC/HND, or Level 5 VQ in a civil engineering-related discipline.
- Experience in the design, assessment, and inspection of highway and open space structures.
- Knowledge of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges and Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works.
- Familiarity with software such as AMX, TEDDS, Superstress, Advance Design, Scale, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment.
Desirable Skills
- Are certified under the Bridge Inspection Competency Scheme (NHSS31).
- Have experience in budget monitoring.
- Can conduct topographical surveys.
The role requires travel to construction sites and other offices, necessitating a current driving licence.
