Are you an experienced Payroll Manager looking for a leadership role where you can genuinely make a difference? Our client is seeking a proactive and people-focused Payroll Manager to join their team in Paisley. This is a fantastic opportunity to take ownership of a complex payroll function, lead an established payroll team, and play a key role in delivering an exceptional payroll service across a large UK workforce.

With responsibility for overseeing payroll operations supporting approximately 9,000 employees, you'll be at the heart of ensuring accuracy, compliance, and continuous improvement within a fast-paced environment.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Head of Payroll, you'll manage the monthly salaried payroll and provide operational oversight of the company's 4-weekly payroll operation. You'll lead a team of Payroll Administrators, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time, while driving high standards of service and compliance. This role offers the opportunity to influence processes, develop your team, and work closely with senior stakeholders across HR, Finance and Operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Payroll Leadership
    • Manage the monthly payroll process for salaried and management employees
    • Oversee payroll operations for a workforce of approximately 9,000 employees
    • Review payroll reports, reconciliations and payment files
    • Ensure payroll is processed accurately, compliantly and within deadlines
    • Resolve complex payroll queries and escalations
  • Team Management
    • Lead, coach and develop a payroll team
    • Allocate workloads and ensure service levels are achieved
    • Support performance management and employee development
    • Foster a positive, collaborative and high-performing team culture
  • Compliance & Continuous Improvement
    • Ensure compliance with UK payroll legislation, HMRC regulations and pension requirements
    • Support audits and maintain robust payroll controls
    • Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes and efficiencies
    • Produce payroll reporting and management information
  • Stakeholder Engagement
    • Partner with HR, Finance and Operational teams
    • Provide expert payroll guidance across the business
    • Maintain relationships with HMRC, pension providers and external stakeholders

About You

To be successful, you'll bring:

  • Proven experience as a Payroll Manager, Payroll Supervisor or Senior Payroll professional
  • Previous experience leading and developing payroll teams
  • Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation and compliance
  • Experience managing high-volume payroll operations
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Advanced Excel skills and a solutions-focused mindset

Experience within Facilities Management, Cleaning, Security, Logistics, Retail, Hospitality or another labour-intensive environment would be highly advantageous.
