About the Role
We're seeking an experienced Health and Safety Officer to support the UK Safety, Security & Business Continuity function within a leading renewables-focused organisation. This is a highly visible role that places safety, health, and wellbeing at the centre of operational decision-making, supporting both operational and construction sites across the UK. You will combine hands-on, site-based engagement with hybrid working, spending one day per week at the Edinburgh headquarters while regularly travelling to offices, construction projects, and operational locations nationwide. This role suits a proactive H&S professional who values autonomy, variety, and the opportunity to make a measurable, organisation-wide impact.
Your Mission
To embed safety and security as a core organisational value by preventing accidents and occupational illness, protecting people and assets, and ensuring effective business continuity and crisis management readiness across UK operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct Health & Safety compliance assessments and site inspections across operational, construction, and office locations
- Identify hazards, complete risk assessments, and develop clear, actionable improvement plans
- Support incident, near-miss, and hazard investigations, ensuring effective corrective actions
- Monitor and manage contractor H&S performance, including documentation verification via E-Gestion
- Provide expert H&S advice throughout project lifecycles (development, construction, and operations)
- Support delivery of safety training, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Maintain and enhance the ISO 45001 Management System and contribute to safety governance activities
What We're Looking For
Experience
- Minimum 1 year's experience in a relevant Health & Safety role
Technical Knowledge
- Strong understanding of UK Health & Safety legislation and compliance
Skills and Competencies
- Excellent communication and influencing skills
- Confident working with contractors and multiple stakeholders
- Technically curious with strong attention to detail
- Proactive, dynamic, and focused on continuous improvement
- Highly conscientious with a strong safety-first mindset
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Degree in Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related discipline
- UK-recognised H&S qualifications, such as NEBOSH General Certificate or Diploma
- IOSH Managing Safely or TechIOSH membership
- Experience working with ISO 45001 and H&S Management Systems
- Experience on construction sites
- Knowledge of electrical risks and working at heights
- Exposure to the renewable energy sector (wind and/or solar)

- Fluent English (essential)
