Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager

Duration: Minimum 3 months with potential for extension

Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday (08:00 - 16:00, flexibility available)

Rate: 31.00 per hour

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to join our client's busy manufacturing and industrial operation on an interim basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive EHS professional to play a key leadership role within the business, driving compliance, continuous improvement, and a positive safety culture across the site.

The Role

As EHS Manager, you will be responsible for leading all aspects of environmental, health, and safety management across the site. Working closely with operational teams and senior leadership, you will ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, develop and implement EHS strategies, and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing and maintaining the site's EHS management systems and programmes.
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant environmental, health, and safety legislation and industry standards.
  • Acting as a key member of the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Supporting operational teams with risk assessments, audits, inspections, and safety initiatives.
  • Leading investigations into incidents and near misses, conducting root cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Managing relationships with regulatory bodies and ensuring all reporting requirements are completed accurately and on time.
  • Driving behavioural safety programmes and promoting a strong safety culture throughout the workforce.
  • Providing EHS training, guidance, and technical expertise across the business.
  • Monitoring and reporting EHS performance metrics and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Managing EHS budgets and supporting sustainability initiatives.
  • Keeping up to date with legislative changes and industry best practice.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have substantial EHS leadership experience within a regulated industrial environment.

Essential experience and skills:

  • Significant EHS management experience within industries such as chemical, oil & gas, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, waste management, or FMCG.
  • Experience working with regulatory bodies on COMAH, environmental permitting, waste management licensing, or similar regulated environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of ISO14001 Environmental Management Systems.
  • Proven experience leading EHS programmes and influencing positive behavioural safety culture.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong accident investigation and root cause analysis experience.
  • Experience delivering training and coaching across all levels of an organisation.
  • Strong project management and leadership abilities.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science, Risk Management, or a related discipline.
  • NEBOSH National Diploma or NEBOSH General Certificate.
  • IOSH membership (Tech IOSH, Grad IOSH, or Chartered).
  • IEMA membership (Associate, Full Member, or Chartered).
  • Strong understanding of HSE and Environment Agency guidance and approved codes of practice.
