About the Role
We are currently recruiting for Train Cleaners to join a team based at the Ardwick rail depot. This is a physically demanding role working on a night shift basis, supporting the cleaning and maintenance of rolling stock to ensure trains are presented to the highest standards for service. The successful candidate will be reliable, safety-conscious, and comfortable working as part of a team. The role involves manual handling duties, including moving seat frames and other equipment, so a good level of physical fitness is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean allocated rolling stock in accordance with production schedules and site procedures.
- Carry out external cleaning of trains using manual cleaning methods.
- Clean driveline systems using brushes and compressed air equipment.
- Assist with fuelling, tanking, and Controlled Emission Toilet (CET) operations where required.
- Perform underframe cleaning in line with depot-specific guidelines.
- Work effectively within a team of 3-4 colleagues.
- Report defects, damage, or maintenance issues to supervisors.
- Follow all site procedures, health and safety regulations, and work instructions.
- Support colleagues and undertake additional duties as required.
Candidate Requirements
- Ability to understand and communicate in basic English.
- Physically fit and capable of undertaking manual handling tasks.
- Comfortable standing and working on your feet for extended periods.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Reliable, punctual, and committed to maintaining high standards.
- Previous cleaning or industrial cleaning experience is beneficial but not essential.
Knowledge & Experience
- Awareness of Health & Safety regulations, including COSHH and manual handling procedures.
- Experience using cleaning equipment and cleaning chemicals.
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
Training & Induction
All successful candidates will attend a full site induction on their first shift, covering:
