Lead Financial Excellence in a High-Profile Local Authority

We're partnering with a forward-thinking London Borough Council to recruit a Senior Financial Reporting Manager who will play a pivotal role in delivering statutory financial reporting, audit management, technical accounting guidance, and continuous improvement across the finance function.

This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced CCAB-qualified accountant looking to take ownership of a critical finance function within a large and complex public sector organisation.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Head of Finance, you will act as the Council's lead expert on financial reporting, technical accounting, and taxation matters. You will oversee the preparation of statutory accounts, manage external and internal audit relationships, and provide strategic financial advice to senior stakeholders across the organisation.

You will also lead and develop a team of finance professionals while driving improvements in systems, reporting processes, controls, and financial governance.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the production of the Council's Statement of Accounts, Group Accounts, and Whole of Government Accounts

Manage year-end close processes and coordinate external audit activity

Act as the organisation's technical accounting and VAT specialist

Provide expert financial advice to senior leadership, Members, and stakeholders

Lead Collection Fund accounting and statutory financial returns

Drive improvements in financial systems, reporting processes, and automation

Support Audit Committee meetings and governance activities

Develop and motivate a high-performing finance team

Monitor regulatory and accounting standard changes, ensuring ongoing compliance

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • CCAB qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIPFA, CIMA or equivalent)
  • Membership of a recognised accountancy body
  • Significant post-qualification experience within Local Government Finance
  • Extensive experience preparing statutory accounts and managing audits
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and understanding of local authority regulations
  • Experience advising on VAT and public sector tax matters
  • Collection Fund accounting experience
  • Proven leadership and team management experience
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
  • A track record of driving process improvement and financial innovation
