Our client is a well-established fabricator, manufacturer, and installer of industrial steelwork. Their products include structural steelwork beams, columns, channels, plating and associated secondary steelwork, including access ladders, platforms, and the like.
Due to an increase of workload and a full order book, they urgently need to recruit an additional Fabricator / Sheet Metal Worker to their fabrication / production team.
Job Summary
They are looking for a skilled Fabricator / Sheet Metal Worker to join their production team. You will be responsible for transforming flat metal sheets (1.5 mm – 20.0 mm) into precision components and structures. This role requires the ability to read technical drawings, operate a variety of fabrication machinery, and ensure all finished products meet high quality and safety standards.
The working hours are Monday to Thursday 07:30 – 16:30 and Friday 08:00 – 13:00.
Key Responsibilities
- Fabrication & Assembly: Cut, bend, shape, and assemble sheet metal sections using various tools and techniques.
- Blueprint Reading: Interpret technical drawings, engineering blueprints, and specifications to plan layouts and determine material requirements.
- Machine Operation: Set up and operate machinery such as CNC press brakes, guillotines, folders, rollers, and punch presses.
- Welding & Joining: Perform MIG, or spot-welding components.
- Finishing: Use hand tools (grinders, sanders, files) to deburr and smooth edges for a professional finish.
- Quality Control: Inspect workpieces for accuracy, dimensions, and tolerances using measuring tools like calipers, micrometers, and squares.
- Safety: Maintain a clean workspace and strictly adhere to all health and safety regulations, including the use of PPE.
Skills & Qualifications
- Technical Expertise: Proven experience in sheet metal fabrication and a strong understanding of metal properties (primarily mild steel).
- Welding Proficiency: Competency in MIG welding is essential.
- Mathematical Ability: Strong basic math skills for calculating angles, offsets, and material allowances.
- Detail-Oriented: A keen eye for precision and the ability to work to tight tolerances.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to lift heavy materials and stand for extended periods in a workshop environment.
- Certifications: Relevant NVQ, City & Guilds, or apprenticeship in Fabrication and Welding is highly preferred but not essential!
