We are looking for a Commercial Lawyer with experience in IT/ Technology and Outsourcing to join our highly regarded, Tier 1-ranked national practice. This role will contribute directly to the delivery of complex, high-value commercial and technology projects, helping clients achieve innovation and operational transformation. You'll be advising on medium to large-scale transactions across a variety of sectors, particularly where digitalisation, outsourcing and regulatory change converge.
You'll play a key role in advising our long-standing client base of FTSE 100 companies, household-name retailers, energy and utility providers and industrial and manufacturing companies. The successful candidate will work on high-profile digital, sourcing, and transformation mandates, contribute to the continued growth of our commercial technology offering, and mentor junior team members.
We're growing to meet increasing demand for complex, regulated technology, data, outsourcing and transformation advice, and this role supports that strategic ambition. We are ideally looking to speak to suitable candidates that meet the criteria within this advert, and no less than 4 PQE. THE TEAM
Our Commercial team is a national group, with teams across each AG office working together on national and cross border transactions. Nationally, we are ranked in Tier 1 for IT with an enviable client base across private and public sector clients. In respect of digital transformation projects, the team handles some of the largest, most complex deals in this market.
You can expect to be involved in a range of work types for private sector and public sector clients including tech transformations, cloud and SaaS arrangements, IT outsourcing, business process outsourcing, facilities management outsourcing, logistics, IT licences, & commercial contracts. This is a high performing, cohesive and busy team with excellent prospects for career development, and secondments, if you want them.
WHAT TO EXPECT IN THIS ROLE
- Lead and support on a broad range of technology, outsourcing and commercial contracts, including strategic digital transformation projects.
- Work directly with clients on negotiating IT and BPO outsourcing arrangements, SaaS/cloud service contracts, licensing, and supply chain agreements.
- Handle a diverse workload of both large-scale and mid-market commercial transactions, acting either as lead adviser or part of a wider team.
- Develop and manage long-term relationships with clients, becoming a trusted adviser across their commercial legal needs.
- Provide mentorship and supervision to junior lawyers and contribute to internal knowledge sharing and team growth.
- Support the team in business development and thought leadership, identifying opportunities to deepen client engagement.
YOUR AREAS OF KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE
- Qualified lawyer with significant post-qualification experience (4+PQE) in commercial and technology law.
- Demonstrable experience advising on IT outsourcing, SaaS/cloud, software licensing, or technology infrastructure agreements.
- Confident leading transactions and managing client relationships.
- Consultative and strategic in approach – able to translate legal advice into commercial value.
- Able to manage multiple workstreams and deliver to time-critical schedules.
- Sector experience in retail & consumer, energy and utilities, industrial and advanced manufacturing and/or digital health.
- Familiarity with regulatory issues impacting technology contracting (e.g. outsourcing rules, operational resilience, cloud guidance, data protection).
- In-house experience or client secondments, demonstrating strong commercial judgement.
