Technical Lead – Emerging Tech & Innovation
Join a cutting-edge innovation group helping to shape the future of secure technology in Defence and National Security. This is a chance to lead research, experimentation and early-stage development of technologies that could change the game.
Role Overview:
- Location: Farnborough (Hybrid) 3 days a week in the office
- Package: £75,000 (Negotiable) + bonus + full benefits
- Industry: Defence, National Security, Emerging Technology
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Leading multidisciplinary engineering teams through rapid prototyping and experimental builds
- Researching emerging technologies and trends, turning insights into actionable recommendations
- Delivering demos, proof of concepts, and technical briefings to internal and external stakeholders
- Supporting business development with technical expertise, white papers, and customer engagement
- Shaping the strategic roadmap for innovation, working closely with leadership to align on goals
- Managing the SIG lab — overseeing its design, development and ongoing evolution
- Driving technical decision-making around architecture, tooling and platform choices
- Representing the organisation in technical conversations with partners and academia
- Ensuring security is embedded across the software development lifecycle
Main Skills Needed:
- Strong experience in engineering roles (software, infrastructure, platform, SRE, or architecture)
- Deep understanding of modern tools, technologies and frameworks
- Strong track record leading technical teams in fast-paced or exploratory environments
- Comfortable working with incomplete requirements and changing priorities
- Confident communicator with experience influencing technical and non-technical audiences
- Proficient in identifying risks, assumptions, dependencies and opportunities
- Experience in Defence/National Security or secure environments is a bonus
- Familiarity with containers, orchestration, Linux admin and cloud architecture is desirable
