A major transformation programme is underway within a global consulting environment, and quality delivery sits right at its core. This Defect Manager role will take full ownership of defect governance from SIT through to final delivery, ensuring stability, transparency, and pace across a complex landscape.
Role Overview:
- Location: UK-based (programme environment – hybrid working likely)
- Package: Up to £700 per day (Outside IR35)
- Industry: Consulting / Large-Scale Transformation
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Taking full ownership of the end-to-end defect management lifecycle across SIT and subsequent phases
- Defining, embedding, and enforcing defect governance standards and controls
- Overseeing defect tracking tools, ensuring configuration, data integrity, and user adoption
- Leading structured triage sessions and facilitating War Rooms to drive rapid resolution of critical issues
- Monitoring severity, priority, and ageing of defects to maintain delivery momentum
- Producing clear, insight-led dashboards covering volumes, density, ageing, and resolution timelines
- Acting as the central link between Testing, Development, and Business stakeholders
- Driving root cause analysis and working with QA and Engineering teams to reduce recurring defects
- Supporting controlled re-testing, regression cycles, and re-entry of fixes into test phases
- Ensuring compliance, audit traceability, and accurate historical defect records
Main Skills Needed:
- Proven experience as a Defect Manager or senior QA/Test leader within large, complex programmes
- Strong background managing defect processes through SIT and downstream test stages
- Hands-on expertise with defect management tools such as JIRA, ALM, or Azure DevOps
- Confident leading triage sessions and high-pressure resolution workshops
- Strong reporting capability with the ability to interpret metrics and highlight systemic risks
- Excellent stakeholder management skills across technical and business audiences
- Calm, structured approach in fast-paced delivery environments
