Join a small team of passionate climate and sustainability consultants, working in the agriculture sector. This is an exciting opportunity to work on one of humanity’s most pressing challenges: how do we produce safe, nutritious food in a sustainable and profitable way while adapting to climate change. Consultants will have the chance to work across all aspects of agricultural systems on a wide range of topics.

The consultant will have opportunities to participate in the wider RSK graduate training program, learn more about sustainable production and develop technical and practical skills to support the challenge of reducing the environmental impact of agriculture, whilst maintaining food security. ADAS Climate and Sustainability is a business within the ADAS group, part of the RSK group of companies, so you have the benefit of working in a small business while having the wider opportunities that a larger business can offer.

ADAS is a specialist agricultural consultancy, with the majority of the climate and sustainability work that we deliver focused on the agricultural part of food production, although we do also work along the wider food supply chain. Our main focus is on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions assessment and mitigation, as well as climate adaptation and resilience; however, we do also work in wider areas of sustainability such as water use and resource use efficiency.

We are looking for a graduate with an understanding of agriculture and enthusiasm to develop new ideas to support the transition to low carbon, nature-rich farming landscapes, through desk-based analysis and modelling. This role will be based out of our Boxworth, Cambridge office for the first 12 months, to allow the graduate to become established in an office environment, and create networks with the wider ADAS community based out of this rural office.

Key Responsibilities
  • Approach: take a rigorous approach and attention to detail in both quantitative and qualitative research and analysis.
  • Data analysis: Support in the development of tools to collect, analyse and interpret farm and supply chain data – for GHG emissions, water use and other sustainability metrics.
  • Writing: Support drafting of reports that are compliant to industry standards and client requirements.
  • Problem solving: Develop solutions and ideas to support delivery of novel projects.
  • Technical skills: Input into a diverse range of consultancy projects linked to climate and sustainability in the agriculture sector. Support climate risk assessments.
Person Specification
  • Degree or relevant vocational qualification in a relevant subject such as Agriculture, Biology, Geography or Environmental Science.
  • A good understanding of UK Agricultural production systems; work experience on farm is a benefit.
  • Understanding or experience working with farm-level carbon accounting, or industry frameworks such as TCFD or TNFD would be an advantage.
  • Competent user of Microsoft Software, including TEAMS, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Understanding of advanced data science modelling would be an advantage, such as familiarity with coding in Excel VBA, R, or Python.
  • Fluency in English to communicate in a clear and concise manner, both through written (email, reports) and verbal applications.
  • Be flexible and able to work under tight deadlines – many of our projects are short turnaround and require staff to be able to plan their time to meet these deadlines and be flexible to manage competing deadlines and changing projects.
  • Have a full UK driving licence and own transport (the Boxworth office has limited public transport access, so you will need to be able to drive to get to work).
KPIs / Success factors
  • Timely delivery of quality reports that require minimal editing (for spelling and grammar).
  • Delivery of utilisation targets.
  • Positive feedback from team.
Salary And Benefits
  • Starting salary £28,000, with 10% increase after completion of first year and further 10% increase after completion of second year.
  • Contributory Pension Scheme and Life Assurance.
  • Opportunities to join the RSK graduate training program to develop key consultancy skills.
  • On the job training and mentoring will be provided, alongside industry relevant qualifications.
  • We encourage Continuing Professional Development and support Chartership to relevant professional bodies.
  • Encouragement to participate in relevant professional committees.
  • Allowance for membership to one professional body.
  • Flexible benefits programme with the option to buy additional holidays, private health care and discounted gym membership.
